Latin Patriarchal Vicariate of Jordan

Official Announcement on the Establishment of the Christian Pilgrimage Coordination Office – Jordan

The Patriarchal Vicariate, Latin Patriarchate in Jordan, announces the establishment of the
Christian Pilgrimage Coordination Office – Jordan,
as an ecclesiastical, pastoral, and service-oriented body operating under the supervision of the local Church authority. The Office aims to assist and serve pilgrims coming to the Kingdom and to strengthen their connection with the local Church and the rich Christian spiritual heritage of Jordan.

The establishment of this service reflects Jordan’s significant place in Christian history and heritage, as well as the continuous growth in the number of pilgrims visiting the Kingdom’s holy sites. It also comes as part of the preparations for the Jubilee of the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ, with the aim of ensuring that pilgrimage becomes a comprehensive experience of faith and spirituality—one that goes beyond simply visiting holy sites to become a living encounter with the local Church and its communities of faith.

Objectives

  • To strengthen communication and partnership between Churches around the world and the local Church in the field of Christian pilgrimage.
  • To assist groups of pilgrims visiting Jordan.
  • To assist in coordinating liturgical celebrations, Holy Masses, and prayers for visiting groups.
  • To organize specialized spiritual and pastoral encounters for Church institutions, schools, apostolic groups, and youth communities.
  • To highlight the witness, role, and presence of Christians in Jordan as the “living stones” who preserve the Christian faith in this blessed land, while affirming Jordan’s national narrative and identity.
  • To preserve the sacred character of pilgrimage and ensure respect for the sanctity of religious and archaeological sites.
  • To organize various related initiatives, including, but not limited to, seminars, site visits, programs, and awareness publications.

Nature of the Service

The Christian Pilgrimage Coordination Office – Jordan is a non-profit ecclesiastical body with a pastoral and service-oriented mission. It does not engage in any commercial activities, nor does it replace tourism companies, travel agencies, or tour operators. Rather, it works in cooperation with them within the framework of its ecclesiastical mission to provide pastoral and liturgical support, as well as Church coordination, for pilgrims.

A Message of Appreciation and Cooperation

As the Catholic Church in Jordan announces the establishment of this Office, it looks forward to constructive cooperation with governmental and official institutions, tourism authorities, organizations concerned with religious and cultural heritage, and all relevant partners. Such cooperation will contribute to strengthening Jordan’s position as a global destination for Christian pilgrimage, dialogue, and human encounter.
