On 28 October 2026, the Latin Patriarchal Vicariate in Jordan announced the appointment of Mr. Omar Abawi as Executive Director of Caritas Jordan for a five-year term, following a decision by the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land, chaired by Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.
The announcement, signed by His Excellency Bishop Dr. Iyad Twal, Vice President of Caritas Jordan, states that the decision was made at the Assembly’s meeting in Jerusalem on 15 October 2026, in accordance with Caritas Jordan’s governance regulations.
The Vicariate expressed its gratitude to the administrative board for its service to Caritas Jordan’s humanitarian and ecclesial mission and its contribution to developing services for those most in need. It also wished Mr. Abawi success in his new responsibilities, continuing to serve people and uphold their dignity in a spirit of love, solidarity and generosity.
